The Smithsonian American Natural History Museum

We really enjoyed this Museum. It was chartered in 1869 and includes our nature history -- geology, archeology -- well, here is a list of some of their exhibits:

The Evolution Trail
Losing Paradise: Endangered Plants
Hall of Mammals
Human Origins
Dinosaurs/Hall of Paleobiology
FossiLab
Insect Zoo
Ocean Hall
Butterflies & Plants
Hall of Geology, Gems & Minerals
Osteology: Hall of Bones
and so much more.

In the geology area was an actual seismograph and a map giving earthquake information around the United States. Very interesting.
Our favorite part of the museum was the gem area. This is 242,323 carat quartz.

The Hope Diamond

Arkansas Quartz
Beryl
Elbaite

Last, but not least - GOLD!!
